Omoide Poroporo
(Only Yesterday)

Directed by Isao Takahata, this film is one of my all-time favorites. the movie examines the life of Taeko, a single working woman, as she goes on vacation in the countryside. During her trip, she suddenly re-envisions her life as a fifth grade girl. This image of herself follows and helps her on her trip to self-discovery. Of all Ghibli films, I find that this one is the most underrated. Whenver I'm feeling sad and need to experience a reaffirmation of the world and of humanity, I pop this tape in. How many films can we say do that for us?
This will be the second cel I frame. I absolutely adore it. The moment and the character are so wonderfully  captured. It is perfection. Many thanks to everybody who helped get this into my hands! The scan is full size.
Taeko on skilift. She's so beautiful here ^_^  I'm so lucky to be able to find cels of her.
I've wanted a cel from this scene for a while. Pensive Taeko in a dark moment. *NEW*
Even with eyes closed, this cel typifies Taeko's personality. She's got such a nice smile, don't you think?
Taeko laughs more at herself than at Toshio when she thought that he was about to steal her bag at the train station. Toshio is perplexed (such a cute expression!).
This is a cel of Toshio -- the very earnest, organic farmer.
I never thought in a million years that I would own a cel of this character. She's only a supporting character but definitely a  favorite of mine! She's the resident "know-it-all" friend everybody knew in 5th grade. Here she is "mid-pontificating" about running in the hallways. The reaction of her fellow classmate really makes the scene too!
Cute little cel of the nosy friend.
The poor sacrificial lamb destined to strike out. Where's his anime? Just a bit player on this stage. *NEW*
Have you ever been in love? Have you ever experienced walking on air because you are so excited about some news that your feet hardly touch the ground? This cel captures one of my favorite sequences in all of Studio Ghibli's work -- let alone all of anime. The scene never fails in making me smile (or even cry a little bit because I'm so sentimental).
The middle sister who is very upset that Taeko doesn't seem to understand math. Such a nice little dramatic cel!
The middle sister from Omoide Poroporo, eating some noodles. It's amazing where the cels from this movie pop up. I always keep a sharp eye out.
